EEIP on Energy Efficiency
«Energy efficiency has never been more topical, and not only because of current and ongoing policy discussions or because our need to reduce harmful gasses and stop man made climate change. With manufacturing and other industries in mind, one does not need to look further than volatility of fuel prices in the last five-six months. With oil price moving from 85 USD in October 2010 to 125USD this month, per barrel of oil, and with the EU’s consumption of over 13 million barrels per day, we see that European customers and business are spending 500 million euro per day MORE than in Autumn last year! This is 200 billion euros MORE per year!
For customers this means less purchasing power, for industry this means higher costs and less non-essential investments. All this makes our work on energy efficiency urgent and pressing. Securing living standards and ensuring business survival and competitiveness, in addition to energy security and environment should remain the chief arguments for putting energy efficiency as the priority fot the EU.»

Múltiplas e diversificadas iniciativas estão a ser levadas a cabo um pouco por toda a Europa, seja por particulares ou entidades públicas. Este é um desafio global e esta semana representa também uma oportunidade para que cada um repense as suas práticas energéticas cotidianas. Para além disso, Portugal não deixa de estar no mapa de iniciativas e todas elas requerem o vosso apoio. É neste sentido que divulgamos os eventos em curso, incentivando a vossa participação activa. 7) Faro – Programa Energia Eficiente Europa

a. O workshop tem como objectivo dinamizar a participação da região Algarve neste programa europeu, pelo que será apresentada a Call 2011, pelo respectivo contacto nacional. Segue-se a exposição de um projecto EIE sobre Eficiência Energética no sector do Turismo e a intervenção do director da Agência Regional de Energia sobre as áreas da Call mais interessantes para a região e algumas propostas/ideias de projectos susceptiveis de lançar o debate com os participantes na sessão.

The workshop is intended to stimulate the participation of the Algarve region in this European programme and so all details of the 2011 Call will be presented by the respective national contact, followed by the presentation of an IEE project on Energy Efficiency in the Tourism sector. Afterwards, a discussion will be launched among participants, by the director of the regional Energy Agency, that will focus on the most interesting areas of the Call and future proposals on these priorities.
8) Faro – Cidades mais inteligentes / Smarter cities

Será ainda apresentado o novo programa nacional Eco-AP relativo à eficiência energética na administração pública.

a. Diversas actividades vão decorrer no âmbito da eficiência energética e das energias renováveis. Entre elas, destacam-se as aulas e seminários, o workshop sobre cozinhas a energia solar, exposições e laboratórios. Durante o evento será promovida a iniciativa de carpooling no campus universitário. Além disso, será lançado um desafio para estudantes do ensino secundário, que consiste na redacção de um artigo para um jornal sobre eco-condução.
b. Many activities will take place aimed at energy efficiency and renewable energy. Activities include: lectures and seminars with the contribution of experts, a workshop about solar kitchen, exhibitions and open laboratories. During the event, it will also be fomented the carpooling initiative promoting that access to the campus in motor vehicles is done by sharing this resource. Additionally, it will be launched a challenge for secondary school students, consisting of writing an article for a newspaper on the topic of eco-driving.

EWIZE is a broad project in the energy efficiency area. Our primary goal is to provide relevant information, trigger more efficient energy practices and promote events and activities on going, not only in Portugal but also at an international level.
Thus, we intend to contribute for a greater awareness and civical participation. We favor a bottom-up comunitarian approach, regarding individual action as a trigger for broad public intervention capable of building the foundations for a more sustainable future.
EWIZE Portugal intends to promote micro-empreendorism and emphasize the mutual relationship between such investments and the enlargement of human capabilities, turning each individual into an active agent, not only of its own development, but also and consequentely of its comunity/country development, in an evolutive and sustainable perspective.
